WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Baptism and communion are the two ordinances or sacraments prescribed by Jesus as visible symbols of invisible grace. They are discernable and tangible representations of both the invisible realities of the gospel and the Spirit’s application of the gospel in our lives.
Symbolic
1. Christ’s death and resurrection
2. The disciple’s union with Christ in His death and resurrection
3. The new life in which a disciple walks
4. Cleansing and washing away of sin
Matthew 28:18-20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
